HONGKONG WINS 4-1 AGAINST ON THE RECORD

JOHNNY LEACH & HAGUENAUER

By "OBSERVER"

Hongkong's table tennis representatives further enhanced their claims to world honours in the opening night's series of exhibition matches last night featuring the English World Singles Champion, Johnny Leach, and the French top-ranking star, Michel Haguenauer.

The local boys did not only win the night's tie by four matches to one, but crowned the night's achievements with a brilliant victory by their champion, Chung Chin-sing, over the redoubtable John Leach..

The only win for the visitors yesterday was that of Lench over the Hong-

Boy Scouts and everybody else had an opportunity. for public service at the Southorn Playground Stadium last night when a wire blazed merrily away with a flame about the size of a hand, slowly climbing up to the roof. The man on top of this ladder, on top of the table on which Johany Leach played, swiped away at it with a long pole and deftly extinguished it two strokes.. The effort, the most public-serving of the evening, did not get the cheer it deserved. However, everyone felt deserving of a cheer, for there wasn't the i - trace of panic.-- China Mall FA
