Professional Tennis Is Once Again Wobbling Towards Extinction

Says CORNELIUS RYAN

New York. Prófessional tennis, which seemed ready to become a major sport two years ago, once agair, is wobbling toward extinction.

Two years ago, all the colourful figures of men's tennis wore in the pro ranks--Jack Kramer, Pancho Gonzales, Frank Parker, Don Budge, Bill Tilden, Frank Kovacs, Pancho Segura,

Among the women, Paulino Betz, Gussie. Moran, Sarah Cooke and others 'were pro. The amateurs didn't have much left.

It is understood that the decision was based on the fact that in the

Kramer drubbed Bobb Rigas, Gonzales and then Segura in successive tours, Interest drop- ped, although fans praised the honesty of the matches, where a closer over-all score in matches might have been a better box- office attraction. INDIA TOUR KEEP PLEASING THE SELECTORS

London, Aug. 5. England's cricket Selectors must be feeling very pleased with the side they have chosen to tour India next winter.

U. M. Omar though generally a little less accurate than usual on the slightly tricky green with his blockers never felt below his usual masterly game, coming out like a true champlon when the the cdds were against him at cruciat last head.

Special credit of the day goes to the losing lead, F. G. da Lazz who played a brilliantly con sistent game throughout, giving his side a total lie of 15 shots on 12 heads as opposed to A. M. Omar's 10 shots on xlx heads.
