MR Herbert Morrison may not go down to posterity as the greatest Foreign Minister in history, but he has at least one unique achievement already to his credit-ho has broken through the iron curtain in a manner no other contemporary statesman has been able to parallel. It would be unwise to over- evaluate the significance of the publica- tion in full by Pravda of Mr Morrison's Soviet challenging appraisal of the system, but the fact that, for the first time, the Russian people as a whole have been given the opportunity of learning what the free world' thinks about the Soviet way of life and how It compares with that of the democracles, is of itself important. Moreover it has to be appreciated that Pravda is not indulging in any news- paper "tunt," so that it can be reason- ably assumed that Pravda and its bigh governmental advisers have a definite. obfective in giving the Russian people a new insight into current international thought. It is suggested by some observers that the publicised exchange of views between Mr Morrison and Pravda is the prelude to a wider Inter- change of social and political ideas to which the Russians as a whole are to
