Preview Of Colonial Art Exhibition

(Our Own Correspondent)!

London, May 23. Mr John Dugdale, Minister of State for Colonial Affairs, today attended a private view of the notable exhibition of traditional art from the Colonies being shown at the Imperial Institute as part of the Festival of Britain. In an interview with your correspondent Me Dugdale de clared enthusiastically "This is

thing about the artistic expres-

alon of people in the Colonies. In order to popularise art among the Colonial peoples the subject should, he thought, be included in the curricula of Colonial schools,

ois. The traditional dre of the Colonies, however, should bo taught side by side with Western art. Knowledge about art could not develop in fight compartments.

The King and Queen will visit the Exhibition tomorrow; it will be opened to the

public on May 25. The exhibits include raro

examples of traditional Colonial art--some nover seen before in Britain. They are representative of West, Central and East Anti- ca, the West Indles, Malaya and the Colonial territories in South- east Asin.

Mr William Fage, Assistant Keeper of the Department of Ethnography in the British Museum, who assisted in arrang- ing the Exhibition, explained to me, The essential fact which a Visitor to this exhibition needs
