THE CHINA MAIL, WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, 1951.

COMBINED CHINESE LOSE TO HENDON BY 3-2 AFTER BEING TWO GOALS UP

By SPIV

Despite a lead of two goals to nil gained in the first 22 minutes of play, the Combined Chinese, though having more than three quarters of the remainder of the play ended up with a 3:2 defeat against the visiting Hendon team yesterday before a full crowd of about 14,000 spectators.

Contributing to Hongkong's failure of achieving an historical feat were a weak back line and an ineffective forward line when confronted with the goalmouth,

The Hendan team thus cumpleted their Hongkong series with an unbeaten record, having beaten the Hongkong interport X1 in the opener by two goals to nil. and drawn with the Hongkong Selection XI in the second match. They left for Manila together with a Hongkong side this afternoon and are expected to be buck here on May 23 before leaving for home. No extra matches have so far been arranged for the visitors in Hongkong, although it has been generally hoped that a return match between them and the Combined Chinese could be fixel up.

CLEAR-CUT WINS FOR SURREY AND MIDDLESEX IN LEAGUE CRICKET

London; May 15. Two of the metropolitan counties, Surroy, who shared the Championship last year, and Middlesex, finished off their matches early today to gain clear cut wins,

Nevertheless, both had some opposition before the end came.
