Notifications of the disease for the year 1950, reached the grim figure of 9,207,

Cuba May Take Over
Railways
Havana, May 3, President Prio announced today that he would ask the Cuban Congress for
the nationalisation of the British- I owned United Railways in Cuba, The announcement was made at the Presidential paisce after the President had reached an agreement with the leaders of two big strikes, one involving the nationalisation issue.
But the statement, which "said the President would send an "urgent message" to Congress, gove no details and did not say when it would be delivered.
The two strikes by maritime workers and rallwaymen-wete called off today after union leaders had conferred with the President.
The cluding
maritime workers, in- E dackers, paraived Havana and other ports for 24 hours. They stopped work for a 30 per cent increase and other benells and for the abolition of the suspended frolght.car ferry service between Havana and the United States-Reuter.
