Army Win The Cricket League Championship

By

"RECORDER”

Army won the Championship of the Senior Division

of the Cricket League with a victory by 81 runs over

Royal Navy at Sookunpoo yesterday.

The day before they had beaten the Optimists by 87 runs, at Chater Road while Scorpions, the only other challengers, lost by 30 runs to the Royal Air Force at Kai Tak.

In the Chater Road match, Army left the Optimists exactly 120 minutes to ecore 206 runs for victory and the home team's batting machine cracked up to the tune of four wickets with 21 runs on the board.

After that it took Army's large array of bowling talent not 605 much time to have the Optimists out for 118 despite a stand for 68 runs by Laurie Klibee and

any team in this Colony has ever dreamt about.

This bowling side was the strongest in Bocal League cricket in the last three seasons and, except for Frank Howarth and possibly Gerry Gosano, Army bowlers would dominate Colony XI today,

In fact, so rich la Army's bowling that Dick Corfield did not play against the Optimists, largely, we suspect, because his The Navy, curiously, put up bowling WOS considered too more resistance at Soolampoo familiar. for the Optimists bat-
