Against Leicesters In Land Forces
Boxing
By "RINGSIDE”
Final
The final of the Land Forces inter-unit boxing tournament between the isl Bn. Leicestershire Regt and 1st Bn. King's Shropshire Light Infantry proved a very even affair and was not decided until the last contest had finished.
The narrow win by the KSLI with a score of 17 points to 15 indicates how close the contest was, but apart from this the 1st Bn. Leicestershire were very un- lucky for, in addition to having two of their first string unfit (in both of which weights they lost), Pte Hammersley, their Bantamweight representative, weighed a few ounces over the limit and had to forfeit two points to his opponent to give the KSLI a flying start.
Three very clever boxers on the losing side were Ptes Harris, Smith and Wager, who all won their fights. As a matter of fact, Wager was the best of them all, his feinting, side-stepping, covering up and hard punching enabling him to win his fight in the second round.
