PROUD as any father, Val Cloud Hill ties a fan of feathers on 13-year-old Junior Cloud Hill. After he finishes high school, Junior hopes to dance with the troupe.

URING the adventurous days of the old west, the Indian who brought in the most buffaloes usually was looked upon as the man most likely to succeed. Today, the most respected warrior in the tribe la the one who can twirl the fastest and leap the highest in native dances,
Among the foremost dancers of the First Americans are the richly-plumaged Jemez Indians of Albuquerque, New Mexico. A select band of these full-bloods recently gave the "white men" a glimpse of the weird Devil Dance, among others, at New York's Madison Square Garden in a spectacular programme of Indian ceremonials. The troupe was chosen to represent the pueblo tribe because each man had achieved great renown and respect for his mastery of the intricate steps.
Leader of the little band is Tony White Cloud. With him were five braves, Junior Cloud Hill, 13, who took time out from school to travel with the dancers, and Juanita Young Eagle. Besides keeping an eye on her husband, Juanita did the mending and other chores for the warriors.
To Indians, dancing always has been more than mere entertainment. without words, thought they cannot express.
