This is the team of whom there is no mention in. Holbrook Jackson's monumental work. Their omer- gence caused considerable confusion. A contemporary insisted that they had a bye in the first round.
The Hockey League's Fixtures Secretary rang up last week to inform us that the Hongkong Ladies were going to play on Sunday as the Victorious Ladies, pos- albly as the Victorias. He wasn't sure. He was pro- viding the venue and umpires and it was up to us to do the rest, short of turning out the teams...
In the end we compromised by turning out one umpire. Yet, after all the interest we have shown in their fortunes, they would not give our photographer a second chance. So we present them as they were just after being run over by a pack of determined school- girls.
Unbowed by defeat, they came back as tho Vic- torians (citizens of the City of Victoria in the Colony
CLOSE
of Hongkong) the following Sunday and this time they were, indeed; victorious.
They have yet to make up their mind who playe where on the team but all the Victorians in this picture have played in at least one of the two matches to date.
They are:
Back row w Pat Lederhofer (goalkeeper), Mary Eddis (inside-left)," Peglyn Faber (centre-half and cap- tain), Joan Crighton (centre-forward) and Rita Langston (left-back).
Middle row Pauline Owen-Hughes (right-half or left-half), Sylvia Franklin (centre-half or right-back) and Hannah Foley (left-half or inside-right),
Front row Susan Whitworth (outside-right), Anne Sainsbury (inside-right or right-half), Judith Collis (centre-forward), Joyce Gomersall (inside-left) and Beth MacNaughton (outside-left).

By "ARGONAUT”
As the Badminton League reaches the end of, its fourth week, there is already every indication that there will be a very close finish in all the Junior Divisions.
By far the most keenly fought out race should be seen in the Men's "B"- Division, where practically every one of the seven participating teams is capable of producing a major change in the League table.
