ARMS AID PRIORITY WANTED BY BRITAIN

DIVISION FOR GERMANY READY WITHIN YEAR

London, September 13. Mr. Hugh Gaitskell, the Minister for Economic Affairs, told the House of Commons tonight that Britains rearmament pro- gramme depended on machine tools and other aid from the United States..

He felt that the Government would have to ask the United States, for some

priority in this matter, he declared.

As the new drive, got under way, Britain would produce considerably more than double the present defence equipment for the forces. Defence and exports to dollar markets would now rank together at the top of the production list. Next priority would be exports to the Common- wealth countries.
