New Alan can't hold candle to old Ladd

Rating:★★

There's a new Alan Ladd in Paramount's "Bayond Glory," coming to the Lee, a Lodd faced with situations out of which even he cannot slug his way, loving in a manner radically different from his he-manhandling style of old. sonally, we prefer the old Ladd.

"Beyond Glory" is a story of our own turbulent times, told, in authentic location shots, against the never-chang- ing. tradition-bound back- ground of West Point. There a man, and the institution it- self, go on trial, the former trying himself for the murder of his wartime commanding officer, the school defending. itself against charges of ́un- democratic practices.
