Allied forces yesterday smashed the Communist pincer threat to Taegu-which was evacuated by the South Korean Government -virtually wiping out the enemy's main Naktong River bridge- head to the South and rolling back the Red offensive to the North, while. South Korean troops recaptured Pohang.

The First Marine Brigade and infantrymen of the Army's 24th Division killed 1,000 to 1,500 Red troops in the Naktong elbow bridgehead 25 miles South West of Taegu and sent the remainder fleeing in panic to the West bank under a hail of Americon fire.
