Stan-Vac oil shipments to China halted
Standard-Vacuum Oll Com- pany yesterday confirmed that it had been requested to com- pletely cease, for the time be- ing, shipments of petroleum products to Communist- occupied territory in China.
The company stuted that tho report published in a New York newspaper carller this week that no such request had been re- ceived from oftelat sources in Washington was inaccurate.
The company's statement said:
"Standard-Vacuunx Oll Com- pany is gulded by the policy of the United States Department of Stale in connection with the con- duct of its operations in all for- cign areas.
"Following the invasion of the Republic of Korea, the State DGA partment requested that, for the ilme being, the company suspend all shipments to Communist China of all types of petroleum products, however small in quan- tily.
"This request appeared to be based upon the need for making certain that such ship- monta would not directly or Indirectly
support the North Korean military forces.
"The company, which former- ly was an important distributor of oil products in China, has vir- tually been closed down in that country for the past 13, months."
