MIDDLE EAST ARMS CONTROL DEMANDED

Washington, May 16.

Senator Herbert R. O'Connor, Democrat of Mary- land, today pressed the Secretary of State, Mr. Dean Acheson, now in London, for immediate Anglo-American action to control: shipments of arms to the Middle East. Those shipments, ho said, constitute a threat to Israel. Britain, he said, is furnishing arms and munitions to the Arab nations in quantities which would seem to go far beyond their internal security needs.

He added, "Information be- fore us shows that there is a definite threat to peace in that area and we will be recreant to our duty to the infant na- tion of Israel if we do not face. up to this situation in a realis- tic manner."
