PRESIDENT TRUMAN OPTIMISTIC OVER WORLD SITUATION No fears of a shooting
war with
Soviet Russia
'Washington, May 4.
President Harry Truman today tried to allay fears of a shooting war with Russia. He is not alarmed, he said, and the situation now is not nearly as bad as it was in the first half of 1946.
He thinks the world situation is improving, and while he may be an op-
timist, one has to be an optimist to be President of the United States, Ho spoke out at a news conference against a reorganised United Nations with Russia excluded, as suggested by the former President, Mr. Hør- bert Hoover, and said the United States will continue to support the United Nations as long as he is President. In most instances, the UN is working well, he added.
