U.S. may use Comet on domestic airline tests

Washington, May 4.

U:8. Government officials are considering using a foreign bullt jet transport-either the British Comet or the Canadian Jetliner for operation tests over United States domestic air-

line routes.

The proposal was made because the United States has no Jet transport and is unlikely to have ene for a couple of years. However, there are growing demands by both civil and mill. tary groups for steps to shorten the lead taken by foreign com petitors in what promises to be a major portion of the future aviation market.

Operating date with a new type plane is necessary in con- with solving problems of air traffic control, terminal to terminal speede, dependability and fuel consumption. The United Information would help decide how much effort the States should put into jet, transports. It might take a year or more putting them into service after the first ones are bullt. -Associated Press.

It was pointed out to the "Chuna Mall" by the source which claim- ed that the ship had been sunk, that the Ethel Moller was carry- ing dangerous cargo. In addition, If the ship had beea severely dam- aged in the stern, it would slnk rapidly, the source said.

Most sourers admitted that they had no recent reports on tho whereabout of Captain Wales alp, or of the crew.

In addition to Captain Wailes, It is understood that the only other European member of the 36-man crow was the First En- gineer.

His name was not disclosed. All reports agreed that the Ethel Möller had been severoly

Soviet aid to Peking

Taipeh, May 4.

The Nationalists today ofll- cially accused Russir and Red. China of making joint prephra- tions for world war. :

They made many charges, such .08:

1. One hundred Chinese Com- munist divisions were being Sovi- etised in organisation and equip- ment.

2. Moscow had promised the Chinese Reds 000 planes and 277 of these were in the Shanghal area, at least 30 of them being Identified as leta.

3. Besides Dalren and Port Arthur, Soviet submarines were making Tsingtao a base. Soviet submarines had been spotted in the vicinity of Shanghai, Taiwan and Hainan,

4. The Soviets gave the Chinese Reda 34 warships aggregating 37,000 tons, which were received from In

Japan as war réparation.

5. Sovlet advisers and techni

cians in Red China totalled 23,000 men-12,000 with the Army, 0,000 with the Navy and 3,000 with the Air Force.

These charges were made at a new conference given to visiting Americas newsmen by General Chdu Chi-Jou. of the Joint Gen- oral Staff.

Speaking of this "anti-Com- munist and anti-Soviet war," he predicted it would be a long one and worldwide in nature.

Facing "collapse"

The territorial expansion of the Chinese Reds, Chou said, Impressed many observers A Indication of victory, "but facts: already - show they are already

on the way, to total collapse."

In

support of this contention, he made these points:

1. "We have withdrawn from the mainland but have recovered the hearts of the people there".

2. Nationalist defcuts on the mainland were caused by Red guerilia activities behind the line and in the rear, but now the same situation was
