Singapore trading with Japan

Singapore, April 15. Singapore traders today aç- quired from the Government quotas totalling $10,000,000 (Straits currency) for imports from Japan under the 1949-50 trade agreement between Japan and the sterling area.

Purchases under these quotas must be completed before June and shipped from Japan within six months of the dates licencos are issued.

The quotas complete the dis- tribution of total allocation made to Singapore under the jagree- mont.

Goods allowed to be imported are toxtiles, steel and other building materials, cement, food- stults and sundry goods. Textilen take up the biggest share of the quotas.

Tokyo despatch said a Malayan firm has contracted to supply the Japan Steel and Iron Manufacturing Company, Japan's major steel producer, with 300,- 000 tons of iron

ore before the end of August.
