Taipeh, March 28.

Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek made a world-wide appeal today for food for millions of mainland Chinese starving because of Com- munist shipments to Russia.

He said the Nationalist Government would try to get the areas by every possible means, including air drops: every means to prevent our people on the mainland from dying of starvation," he said.

Taipeh, March 28..

Red General Lin Piao's battle-hardened "stool corps" stormed ashore on three beachheads on to South China's Hainan Island, but the Nationalists said today they had "complete- ly annihilated" the enemy in an all-day battle. The landings were made yesterday in waves in the biggest attempt at invasion yet, and observers said it apparently was the start of a full-scale attempt to conquer the big island.

In a radio broadcast beam- ed at cities and villages of the Chinese mainland, the Gen- eralissimo said the famine had been created by the Commun. ist regime on Russian orders. He said the Chinese Commun- ists "aim at executing the Soviet policy of destroying Ching by the Chinese them- selves,"

Chiang said: “It is alarming to recall that three years ago the Russians told the Chinese Reds that in order to bring about in- itial success of the "Communist revolution in China at least 200,- 000,000 Chinese people should be sacrificed."

He said the famine is the "beginning" of this road leading to extinguishing of the Chinese race,"

'Flying fireballs' in Hong Kong

The first report of "llying saucers" in Hong Kong was made yesterday by an Amori- can seaman who telephoned the "China Mail" for Informa- tion.

He wanted to know if anyone else had confirmed seeing the "fying fireballs" which he claim- ed were vialble for 30 seconds at the entrance to Hong Kong harbour on Monday at 8.35 p.m. No other report had, in fact, been received.

The speaker, who did not give his name, explained that he saw two illuminated spheres-not the usual discs emerge from low- lying cloud, lighting up the scene.

At first he thought they were meteorites, but then reallaed they were moving too slowly, After about half a minute they dis- appeared back into the cloud- bank.

Believing It probable that the observer had seen weather bal- loons, the "Chino Mail" checked with the Observatory, which stated however that none of their balloons had been released at that time.

Flying saucera are real?

Dallas, Texan, March 27. Henry J. Taylor, veteran radio newsman, sold tonight in a nation-wide broadenst..that the "flying saucers" are real but that this was not to be alarmed at.
