Ip Koon-hung, the 1949 Colony Grasscourt and
Hardcourt Tonnis Singles champion, retained his Grasscourt title for the current year yes- turday, dofcating Tsui Wai-pui in the final at Chater Road by 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3.
Starting at 4.30 p.m. sharp, the match ended ot
5.14 p.m. giving this season's Singles tourna ment one of the shortest finals in the history of the series.
It is true that not even the most optimistic of the record crowd that witnessed the game. entertained any idea that Tsui would dethrone the champion, to whom he conceded no less than 10 years in age.
There
however, were many, who expected Taul to put up a much better 8ght than he did, in view of his line showing against Spence in the semi-final.
But the Tsui of yesterday was only about 50 per cent of the Tsu that played Spence. His services Jacked their usual sting, while
his drives and passing shots sel- dom found their intended des- tinations.
Ip, on the other hand showed vast improvement in his game.
Fine exhibition
Tsul started the eighth game with a double fault, and was soon trailing 15-40, but two good zer vices which Ip netled brought the score to dence.
