AN INCREASE IN THE STANDARD RATE OF TAX UNDER THE INLAND REVENUE ORDINANCE TO 15 PER CENT WAS ANNOUNCED IN LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL YESTERDAY BY THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY, MR. C. G. 5. FOLLOWS, WHEN HE INTRODUCED THE COLONY'S BUDGET FOR 1950-51.

The full new rate will be payable on Corporation Profits, Mr. Follows de- clared, but in the case of Salaries Tax, the effect of the increase will be cushioned by gradations of three per cent instead of 21⁄2 per cent.
