When you accept a job, make sure that you clearly understand the salary terms; it's better to know beforehand than to think that you've been robbed later on.

Most companies review all of their employees' salaries regularly, and if your work is satisfac- tory you should find a bulge in your pay envelope about every six months or every year. If your company does not have such a system, after a year or so of good work, it's perfectly all right for you to discuss this with your superior if you think

you deserve a raise.

{{}]; More Moneyl

sure

Choose the time carefully, and, if possible, make an appointment to one your superior in advance, so that you don't interrupt what may be, a hectic business day,

Sell yourself again

Final warning! Make you're sure you deserve a raise

Job.

And, also, don't ask for one be- cause you ope:spent last month's salary, or because you'd like to blow yourself to Inncy vaca- tion. The only justifiable basis is that the work you're doing makes you more valuable to the company than when you were originally employed, so be sure you con demonstrate this with facts.

As I said before, you need to have a lot of diplomacy and tact to be successful in business. Ask- ing the raise requires every ounce of finesse you own, even when you're convinced you have a good case,

Bill likes to think he knows it all; He tackles subjects great or

smati.

Then wanders that you pass

by.

If you have been responsible for working out more emcent systems, if you've taken on dd, ditional work, don't be afraid to point these things out.

Never say that, you haven't been lale or absent even a single day-that's expected of you! Even if you succeed in persuad-: ing your boss, that you are worth. more money to the company, you'll probably get only half the raise you ask for,

!

Unless you have actually, re ceived a guaranteed offer of an- other job, don't pull the old gig, "I've been offered more money by another company and unless I get as much here, I'll quit." That's a a big gamble and there's an awfully good chance that the boss may say, "Sorry, no more dough,"

and unless you really have something else lined up, I'm afraid you'll be forced to check out.

Now sometimes # company may agree that you're worth moro money to them, but they may be unable to give you any more at the time you ask for it. If this is the

base, and you're promised

a promotion in the near future, It may mean more to your career than a small immediato increase, so weigh these things carefully.

Drop that futile job

If however, the job holds no chance of advancement, it's pro- bably a good idea for you to con- sider making a fast change, and the sooner the better!

SICK OF COWBOY PICTURES

London, February 20. British children are getting sick of cowboy pictures.

So says H. G. Hutchinson, joint

Take it easy! Scan the field first and see what other oppor- tunities there are in both money and work outside your own com- pany. You may find that even without a raise you're doing bet- ter than you could elsewhere.
