The United States extended political support and egonomic aid to the new Indonesian Republic today in the expectation that it will help bolster South East Asia against the advance of Communism. President Harry Truman will grant American diplo- matic recognition to the new Nationalist re- gime within 24 hours, the State Department announced. Other Western and Asia governments, acted almost immediately when the United States of In- donesia come into being, but this Government must comply with certain formalities which the State Department left unexplained.
