GREAT EXPERIMENT

Flushing Meadow, November 19,

Mr. Hector McNeil, British Minister of State, said today that Bri- tain would co-operate cheerfully in the establishment of the proposed new State of Libya.

He told the United Nations' General Assembly, which began debating the fate of Italy's former African colonies, that Britain would support the plan for the colonies presented by the Political Committee.

The Political Committee's recommendations were:

(1) That the sovereign State of Libyc-comprising Cyrenaica, Tripolitania and the Fezzon become independent by January 1, 1952, and that on Advisory Council be appointed to assist in the attainment, of this in- dependence.
