A British-merchant ship which arrived in Hong. Kong from Tientsin yesterday, carried one of the first corgoes of foodstuffs to be shipped from a Communist-held port.

Cargo consisted mainly of 2,000 tons of pears,

cabbages, fresh eggs and beans.

An officer of the ship said that Tientsin was overflowing with food of all kinds.

He added: "During the past four months, I have been visit ing Tientsin frequently, and in all fairness I can say that the Communists have given Tientsin the best goverment that it has had for years. "In addition

to the continual lectures to the workers on the People's Democratic Government. 1 found that the coolies and labourers were actually, working harder

and more efficiently." The officer said that the treat-

On the application of Detective Sub-Inspector J.
