The Communists are preparing for a final assault on Amoy Island. They have occupied sur- rounding points on the mainland and have shelled the airfield at the North East corner of Amoy.

Apart from missionaries, whose number is not available here, about 14 foreigners are re- maining in Amoy. These include the British Vice-Consul, Mr. F. Smitherman, and the staffs and families of businessmen.
Most of their offices are on Amoy Island, but they live on Kulangsi, a smaller island to the West of Amcy. It is about a mile and a half long and three-quarters of a mile wide. It is hilly with many narrow lanes and high walls.
Large-scale fighting is expected on the North Kwangtung front in the next few days
