TITO'S DEATH DEMANDED

BY "PRAVDA" AS

BALKAN RIFT WIDENING

Belgrade, August 22.

Moscow today published a demand for Marshal Tito's death as the Russo- Yugoslav rift steadily widoned. The Yugoslav press struck at the Soviet with a charge of espionage.

The press of the two countries traded blows after the two governments ex-

changed bluntly-worded notes over the week-end.

The Soviet note, delivered on Saturday, threatened effective measures to protect Soviet citizens in Yugoslavia. The Yugoslav note, published yesterday, accused the Russians of double-crossing Marshal Tito in his dispute with Austria.

YUGOSLAVIA TO DEFY RUSSIA LONDON OPINES

London, August 22.

British officials predicted today that Yugoslavia would defy Russia's sharp threat of effective action to defend its captive citizens in Yugo- slatio. They ruled out the likelihood that the Moscow- Belgrade dispute would lead to a shooting wor despite mounting tension inside Yugoslavia. These views apparently were based on a long dis- patch cabled to the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Ernest Bovin today by Sir Charles Peake, the British Ambassador to Belgrade.
