History Of Racing In China Recounted In Rotary Club
Talk
In a 20-minute talk before the 'Hong Kong Rotary Club yesterday, Lieutenant Colonel H. B. L. Dowbiggin, OBE, touched upon racing in China, extending back more than 100 years as well as many old China hands connected with racing.
There were race courses and racing in Peking,
Tientsin, Harbin, Mukden, Daifen, New-. chwang, Hankow, Shanghai, Amoy, Foochow, Macao and Hong Kong. For racing in Foochow the j speaker referred his listeners to Mr. W. M. S. Brand's ar- ticle in the "Hong Kong Sun- day Herald" of June. 12, 1949. Racing, in Foochow was con- tinued up to 1913.
