Appropriation Bill Passes First Reading

Legislative Council yesterday passed the first

reading of a Bill to sanction the appropria- tion of a further sum of HK$34,654,251, to defray the charges of the financial year end- ed March 31, 1948.

Introducing the motion, Mr. C. G. S. Fohows, the

Financial Secretary, told Council that the expenditure for the financial year 1947/48 was estimated at HK$109,834,355, but the actual expenditure was $17,914,846 in excess of this estimate.
