A new cable tunnel, 2,500 feet long and oight feet in internal diameter is nearing completion 76 feet below the ground, and with a minimum clearance of 16 feet below the bottom of the River Thames in London. The building of the new cable tunnel was necessary becouse another similor tunnel, connecting the power station at Battersea with the North side of the Thames is filled to capacity. The new tunnel is lined with cast-iron seg- ments, and when it is completed it will con- tain 1,900 tons of cast-iron lining.
