Administration Working On Proposal To Cut
World, Editor Says Truman's Arms Programme
London, July 30.
Mr. C. R. Srinivasan, Chairman of the All-India Editors' Conference, said in London today that he believed 1950 would be the crucial year of the 20th Century for the whole world. Summing up for the Press Trust of India his impres- sions during a tour of Western Europe, Mr. Srinivasan, a life-long student of economics, pointed to the phenomena which he said could now be seen everywhere-labour troubles, fear of Communism, shy capital, lifeless stock markets, and a progressive fall in the deposits in banks, with a greater than ever demand for money which, however, became scarcer and deprer.

Washington, July 30.
The administration was reported to be working today
on a proposal to reduce the size and scope of - President Harry Truman's US$1,450,000,000 foreign arms programme.
This revision may turn up later in the form of a Democratic compromise after Congressional Committees have completed hearings: Meanwhile, United States military Chiefs of Staff have arrived in Frankfurt, Germany, for a sur- vey of Western Europe defence conditions and needs. When they return to the U. S. in TO days they are expected to meet with the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which is holding hearings on the arms proposal.
