HUGE INCREASE IN UK'S DOLLAR NEEDS More Than Third Of Europe's Allotment
FIGURES CAUSE A STIR
Paris, July 26.
Britain's dollar needs under the Marshall Plan for 1949-50 have increased from $940,000,000 to more than $1,500,000,000, a source close to the Economic Co-Operation Administration stated today.
This is more than a third of the total amount likely to be available to Western
Europe for the second year of the Recovery Programme. Britain, allocated $1,239,000,000 in the first year of the programme, received substantially more than any other participant and about one-quarter of all the funds voted by Congress.
