Pirates Hold Ten Hostages After Raid Near Canton

Ten persons including the moster and the first officer of the mv. Kwei Wah, owned by the Hop Kuen Steamshipping Company, ware taken as hostages by a band of more than 70 pirates at a point about 30 miles South of Canton on Wednesday night while en route to the Colony from the Kwongtững capital. According to the owners of the ill-fated vessel, cargo worth a few hundred thousand dollars was stolen by the pirates who planted six of their men on board the vessel posing as pas- sengers.
