BLOCKADE ENFORCED: British Shipping Warned To FIRST SHIP STOPPED Leave
Pilot Of Isbrandtsen
Liner Taken Off
STOPPED BY GUNFIRE
Shanghai, June 24. The pilot of the fast luxury Isbrandtsen passenger cargo-liner, Star of Suez, was taken off by Nationalist naval officers out- side Shanghai this morning, some 12 hours after Nationalist warships had stopped the Egyptian-flagged vessel by gunfire and compelled her to anchor.
Blockaded Harbours
The British Embassy office at Canton was officially informed yesterday to notify British ships to clear from all ports which come within the blockado, announced on June 20, before June 26.
The note, sont to the Embassy office by the Chinese Foreign Offico, said that to ensure safety, all British vessels should move from all ports along the Ching coast from the mouth of the Min River to the mouth of the Liaoning River to ex-torritorial waters (be- yond the threo-mile limit).
The request was made, it was added, to avoid accidents. The note said that should the ss. Anchises be unable to leave by June 26 because of incomplete repairs, the British Embassy office should notify the Chinese Foreign Office of the fact so that due measuròs may be taken.
Campaign To Reduce
This was revealed in o rodiogram received here today from Captain Shanghai Population
Walter Rothwell, master of the Star of Suez, which sailed from Shanghai yesterday afternoon for Kobe en route to New York.
The nationality of the pilot was not given in the radiogram but it is
learned that he is a Norwegian named Holtho.
