London, June 22.

The British Ministry of Defence announced today that Lieuten-

ant-General F. W. Fosting would be the General Officer Com manding-in-Chief at Hong Kong.

Earlier, the appointment of an overall Commander of British forces in Hong Kong was announced in the House of Commons by the De- fence Minister, Mr. A. V. Alexander.

The Ministor said that the Commander would direct the naval, army and

air units assigned to the defence of Hong Kong.
