HONG KONG TRADE FIGURES

Big Decrease In April Statistics

Tho Statistical Office of the Department of Com- merce and Industry reports that imports of merchandise into the Colony of Hong Kong during the month of April, 1949 amounted to a declared valua of $160,448,839 as compared with $188,888,782 in the month of April, 1948, and $221,714,983 during the month of March, 1949. The figures include Govern. mant-sponsored cargoes.

Exports of merchandise totalled a declared value of $114,826,685 os compared with $138,312,- 688 in April, 1948, and $177,073,237 in. March, 1949,

Imports during the first four months of 1949

amounted to a declared value of $703,121,099 as compared with $630,449,373 in the first four months of 1948.

Exports tofalled $599,165,664 as compared with

$458,951,591.
