RED'S CLAIM 300,000 ACROSS G.B.S. Going On To 93

Nationalist Naval Base At Kiangyin Occupied

LI MEETING CHIANG

Nanking, April 22.

The Communist radio today claimed 300,000 Red troops had swarm-

ed across the Yangtse River at a dozen or more points. The big Notionalist naval base at Kiongyin was reported to have been overwhelmed and Government officials were fleeing Nanking.

The Red radio said the big break-through, which likely has been oxag- gerated, was made South-West of Nanking between Wuhu and An- king, 60 to 150 milos from here. Government defences in the area had been ineffectual, the radio said.

The 10,000-ton cruiser London steamed into port last night with 15 dead and 20 wounded. The destroyer Black Swan arrived together with London. Meanwhile Amethyst was still trapped on the
