VOLUNTARY SERVICE
do training though you will be able to train if you wish to do so.
If you are not able to commit yourself at present beyond a general offer to help in an emergency you are urged to make this offer
now.
You will incur no obligation by doing this and Correspondingly the benefitz of belonging to a recognised service will cover only those who have actually enrolled; nevertheless, offers of service made now are very valuable to the Government because they will establish the number of people other than those enrolled whose general assistance can be counted on If an emergency arises..
Those who wish to enrol in à combatant unit of the Kong Kong Defence Force or in its Essential Services Wing, should call at the H.Q. Hong Kong Defence Force, Lower Albert Road, where all enquiries will be answered. Those who elect for the Special Constabu- lary should call, on or after April 19th, at 1st floor, Central Police Station.
Those who are able only to offer their services are usked to complete a form of which a copy is printed below and to send it to the Colonial Secretariat. These forms may be obtained either from the Public Relations Office, H.Q. Hong Kong Defence Force or from the Colonial Secretariat. The notes printed on the form will make it clear that sign- ing the forms involves no more than a general offer to help and that those who do so will not be forced into a type of job for which they consider themselves unsuited. They may, of course, be asked to hold themselves in readiness to undertake some particular work when an emergency occurs, and if they agree to do this, it will be open to them to enrol whenever they wish to de so. Or they may simply be listed as a strategic reserve of helpers to whom the Government can turn when more workers are needed than those which the recog nise services can provide.
OFFER OF VOLUNTARY SERVICE IN AN EMERGENCY
(1) By signing this form you are merely signifying your willingness to help in
an emergency.
(2) You will be free to accept or reject any suggestion Government may make as
to how your services shall be used.
(3) You probably do not know at this stage whether you can be spared by your employer in, an emergency. You will be given a chance to consult your employer before any plans are made to make use of your services, and doubt on this point need not prevent you from Alling in the form, which is simply a record of your personal willingness to help.
