¡A new record was set up by Shun Fung, ridden by Mr. H. Mait-

land, at Happy Valley yesterday, when it finished one round of the course (about seven furlongs 45 yards) in one minute and 31 2/5th seconds.

It broke the previous record of one minute and 38 seconds set up by Black Market at the last annual races on January 20, 1948. Shun Fung's victory won for its rider the Ladios' Purse, which was presented to Mr. Maitland by Miss Janet Landale, daughter of the Hon. Mr. D. F. Landalo.

Yesterday's racing was en- livened by a few upsets in the betting, resulting in a belter pay-out on the pari-mutuel.

The biggest pay-out was in the ninth ruce.the 2nd section of the Phaeton fundwap in winch Har- vard, a comparative otiskler, dla- favourites, the two hot pued Sidber, and American Clipper. It
