Opposition To Emergency Powers Raised
Sir Man-Kam Lo Places Motion Before Council
Opposition to the Government's continued exercise of emergency, powers, except in matters of emergency or danger to the Colony, was raised by Sir Man-kam Lo in a motion before the Legislative Council yesterday.
The motion stated that where any emergency powers had to be retained by the Government, they should be replaced by legislation. "I am not asking that the emergency powers should be repealed, or that they should not be exer- cised in regard to matters which are of omer- gency to the Empire or of imminent danger to the Colony.. If this-were not so, I am the first to admit that this motion would not com- mond, itself to Council in view of the world situation which 'unhappily exists," he said. This motion concerns itsel!
