MILITARY REVERSES FOR GOVT Leaders

Changchun Fall Admitted; Red Pressure At Taiyuan MUKDEN PUSH SEEN

Nanking, October 20.

The government today admitted the Communists had entered Changchun, gravely accentuating its worsening military situa-

tion.

The militory spokesman here said: "Fierce fighting is now raging in the

streets and suburbs of Changchun."

However, despite the spokesman's reluctançe to admit the Communist radio claim that the whole garrison, consisting of the 60th and the New 7th armies, had surrendered, best qualified military opinion presumed the Manchurian metropolis was lost.

Big Battles On Negev Front

Tel-Aviv, October 19.

Seoul, October 20,

Revolt, called Communist-led by the Government, flared in South Korea today. The Republic was placed under martial law and a pitched battle between loyal and insurgent troops appeared imminent.

A growing band of rebels, described by Home Minister, Mr. T. Y. Yoon, as led by Commun- ist troops in the Korean Army, captured the Southern Korean towns of Sunchon and Yosu, then pushed toward Kwangju, capital of South Cholla Province.

After the revolt began today at Yosu and spread quickly to Sunchon, 12 milos-away, Mr. Yoon placed the infant Republic under martial law.
