Guards In Action In
Malaya
Singapore, October 17. Men of the Guards Regiment were in action in Malaya for the first time this week-end.
Togellier with police and mem- hers of the King's Own Yorkshire detachment of Light Infantry, the Coldstream Guards raided a terrorist hide-out near Bidor,! south Perak.
They were seeking the terrorists who killed four British soldiers of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry while swimming in this nren earlier this month.
The combined force shot dend one Chinese terrorist who ran from a building, and wounded four others who escaped into the jungle.
The building, which proved to be a workshop used for the repair of small-arme, wos equipped with vices and lathes.
The United Kingdom Govern- ment and the Economic Co- operation Administration in Washington have approved the project, and it is expected that formal signature of the neces- sary agreements will take place in Washington this week.. statement from the ECA Raid that construction of the plant, which will produce from 8,000 to 10,000 lobs of carbon black a year, is expected to re- sult in an estimated not reduc- tion of the United Kingdom's dollar requirements by about $1,500,000 mnmly.

UN RESOLUTION MAY CONDEMN RED POLICY
Neutral
Powers' Attitude Said To Be Hardening
London, October 17.
While the Western powers' experts spent the' week-end prepar
ing replies to the Security Council's two questions on the Bor- lin dispute, observers regarded it as almost certain that the Council will, without further delay, pass a resolution condem- ning the Soviet blockade.
Opinion in favour of such action hardened among the six "neutral" members of the Council dur- ing the week-end, it is understood. The abrupt refusal of the Soviet delegate, Mr. Vyshinsky, to co-operate by answering the questions posed by Dr. Juan Bramuglia, Argen- tine acting chairman, and, his suggestion that they wore a "trap," have done much to swing opinion in favour of the Western powers, these observers falt.
