IMPROVED AUSTIN FINISH

A new plant, installed at the Austin Motor Car Company's werks at Longbridge, near Bir- mingham, England, will consider- ably improve the paint finish to Austin motor cars. These were previously finished in cel- lulose paint with final polishing by power mops. The new plant usek #synthetic paint giving more protection and durability and an excellent Anish. The subsequent polishing is effected by the pastdge of the bodles through a gas-beated drying (un- nel 400 feet long, which reduces drying time to under an hour.
Twenty car bodies an hour can be dealt with and, In through the plant, each covers a distance of

The bodies move at a rate of seven feet a minute and can be rotated by the sprayer in a cradle so that he can apply the spray at the best working post- tion and reach otherwise inneces- alble surfaces.
