CONSPIRACY CASE

Robert Steem Smith, former Assistant Crown Soli- citor, admitted in cross-examination by Mr. P. J. Griffith at Kowloon yesterday that he was in a great hurry to leave the Colony. He denied, however, that it was because of past transactions, but said it was because he was without employment here, could obtain em- ployment and funds at home, and because he found himself, in a very embarrassing posi- tion as the result of published reports of nis cross-examination at the last hearing.

Witness fulthor admitted that he had a reserva- tion by the BOAC plane leaving today "which I will now not be able to take up as the result of the court rising at 3 p.m.", and another reservation on the ss. Canton due sail on November 27.
