KEEPING KOWLOON'S WHEELS OF INDUSTRY TURNING

The older building was erected in 1921 and the new extension in 1938. The latter exceeds 100 ft. in height and houses some of the most modern electrical generating plant in the Far East.

In the background can be seen the partly demolished Store and Workshop building which suffered badly during the fighting in Hong Kong.

The coal bunker containing 750 tona of "coal is shown in front of the boller, whenon - coalughutes carry the coal to the 756 sq. ft. chain-grate stoker. At the time of its installation, in 1940, this stoker was the largest in the world as regarde surface area.

This boiler in dual fired: oil le sprayed into the furnace through four large burners In each side wall. This somewhat unusual arrangement por» milte a good deal of flexibility in operation.
