THE RACING SEASON IN

"Miami Beauty"-Paid her supporters $158 when she” won the Pokfulam Handicap, first section, on the first day of the Easter Meeting.

REVIEW

The first half season of the 1948 Racing Year was brought to a close on May 29 when the Hong Kong Jockey Club held its Sixth Extrá Meeting.

The season was marred by the fatal accident to Mr. Tang Man-wa who died as the result of in juries sustained through being thrown against the paddock rails on Feb. 28.

Times clocked during the meetings showed that the "Old Australians" are much better than the new 1948 batches. The outstanding pony of the year has been Black Market which has five wins to its credit, including the Ladies' Purse, and has won $12,000 in stakes. Other successful ponies were:

Vagabond King (4) which won $7,000 in stakes; Ataman (3) $8,940; Amazon (3) $5,750; Rebel (3) $6,750; and (old ponies! Norse Queen (3) $7,750; Daisy Bell (3) $7,000; Fifth Alarm (3) $6,500; and Richard I (3) $5,250.
