The resignation today of Dr. Eduard Benes, 64-year-old Pre- sident and co-founder of the Czechoslovak Republic, took place 24 hours before the "deadline" for the promulga- tion of Czechoslovakia's new Constitution.

In his letter of resignation, he pronounced this bene- diction on his country: "Let all live and work in tolerance, love and forgiveness, allowing freedom to others and enjoying freedom them- selves."

He gave as his reasons his poor health and "the pro-

blems of the whole political situation.”
