The Secretary of State for the Colonies has now signified his approval to the Hong Kong Gov- ornment's recommendations regarding back pay for government servants, Voluntoors and. members of the Civil 'Defence Service in res- pect of the period during which the Colony was under enemy occupation.
The Government's recommendations to the Secre- tary of State were based on the proposals of a Committee appointed by Sir Mark Young on August 16, 1946, in order to "examine the position of Government servants, Volunteers and Civil Defence Personnel who were not interned during the Japanese occupation of the Colony and to make recommendations re- garding the award of salary or pay in respect, of that period”.
