THE KING'S BROADCAST

"A Memorable And Happy Day"

London, Apr. 26.

King George, broadcasting tonight on his Silver Wedding, said that at times his task would have been almost too heavy but for the strength and comfort which he had olways found in his home.

Sitting beside the Queen before a microphone in Buckingham Palace after their evening drive through London, the King said: "This has been a memorable and a very happy day for the Queen and me. Apart from its deep significance to ourselves as man and wife, it has been made the occasion of a world-wide expression of kind- ly goodwill towards us, which has greatly moved

us.

"It has been, an unforget-7 table experience to realise how many thousands of people there are in this world who wish to join in the thankfulness we feel for the 25 years

of supremely happy married life which have been granted to us.

"Looking back over

those years, nobody can deny that they liave been for all of us who have lived through them

full of difficulty, of anxiety,

and often of sorrow.

Bangkok, Apr. 26.

Quirino's Big Task

Manila, Apr. 26. President Quirino will to- day begin to tackle in earnest the enormous and difficult problems facing him as Chief Executive of the Republic.

These included:

(1) The maintenance of peace and order in several trouble areas, notably in Central Luzon.

(2) The broadening of the Government base by cutting across party lines so that the best talent of the country may be utilised to help him "pilot the ship of State on an even keel."

(3) The appointment of a technical committee to govern the legislative programme.
