British atomic scientists, examining rival claims here and in the United States, today pressed the view that British scientists had discovered the "meson particle," the "gluc" which holds to- gether the atomic nucleus whose disruption produces the atom bomb's violent release of energy.

They described the discovery as "the greatest thing in atomic energy since the discovery of uranium."
